Two lone women injured in violent unprovoked attacks in East Kilbride


Two women have been subjected to violent attacks in East Kilbride .

A 58-year-old woman was making her way home from a night out in the town centre last Wednesday when she was approached by three female youths.

And a female was attacked in broad daylight the next day by a man at an underpass in The Murray.

In the first incident, the woman was viciously assaulted by the trio after refusing them a cigarette.

One of the suspects dragged the helpless victim to the ground where she was punched and kicked by two of the suspects in a sustained and unprovoked attack.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm on the spiral staircase at Cornwall Way near to the old Centrepoint nightclub.

The callous thugs, believed to be aged between 16 and 20, eventually ran off and an ambulance was called by one of the suspects.

The victim, who was left badly shaken by the ordeal, was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where she was treated for cuts and bruises.

PC Lucie Black said: “This was an unprovoked and vicious attack on a lone female.

“Despite the time there would have been a number of people in the vicinity.

“I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this attack or has any information as to the identity of those responsible to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”

Police are also appealing for information after a 27-year-old woman was attacked at around 12.30pm last Thursday.

She walked by a man in the underpass at Telford Road in The Murray while heading towards Hairmyres railway station.

A short time later the man approached her and pulled at the backpack she was wearing.

When she confronted him he grabbed her and pushed her against a wall.

The victim managed to pull away from her assailant and ran to East Kilbride police office.

The suspect is believed to be aged between 35 and 37, around 5ft 9in tall with dark brown hair and of middle eastern appearance.

He was wearing a black hooded top, black trousers and black and white trainers.

Anyone who may have seen this man or who has information is urged to call police on 101.
